TABB Director of Certification
Mr. Casey is a native New Yorker who came to TABB as the Director of Certification in October 2006 with close to 28 years of experience in the Sheet Metal Industry. In his previous positions, Casey served as a Business Agent for SMWIA Local 28 and represented their members in all aspects of the industry. Casey also served in many other capacities for Local 28 over the years, including delegate at several Business Agent Conferences and two General Conventions. He served as a Trustee for the local Health and Welfare Fund, Pension Fund, JATC, and Labor Management Committee. He also served as a delegate to the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, the New York City Central Labor Council and the Metal Trades Council of the Port of New York where he was elected Secretary Treasurer in 2003.
Casey started his career in the industry in 1979 and graduated from his apprentice training in 1982 initially working in HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation. In an effort to broaden his knowledge he pursued evening training and work in various aspects of the trade including metal ceilings, roof deck, siding, skylights, radiator enclosures, drafting and testing and balancing. He ultimately pursued a career in drafting which gave him thorough knowledge of the design and purpose of the various types of systems used in the industry. Casey is a graduate of various programs at the Cornell New York School of Industrial and Labor Relations and The George Meany Center-National Labor College.
Casey’s responsibilities at TABB have afforded him the opportunity to promote the value of TABB Certification to engineers, building owners and their representatives. He has learned first hand how important certification is to a customer in assuring them that their project is being performed by a certified professional.
